Concrete Driveway Preparation Explained

Driveway preparation helps establish the conditions needed for concrete placement. The exact steps vary between sites, but the process typically begins with a clear understanding of the existing surface, ground condition, levels and required access.

Removal and excavation

Existing concrete or unsuitable material may need to be removed before the new driveway build-up can be formed. The required excavation depth is determined by the planned construction, site conditions and intended use.

Base, formwork and reinforcement

Once the base is prepared and compacted as required, formwork establishes the geometry and levels of the driveway. Reinforcement, joints and drainage falls are then considered before the concrete placement stage.
