Exposed aggregate and coloured concrete are both popular options for Melbourne driveways and outdoor areas. Each can create a more intentional result than standard grey concrete, but they achieve it in different ways.

Surface character

Exposed aggregate is driven by the stone blend revealed at the surface, creating texture and a more varied visual character. Coloured concrete uses pigment through the mix to create a more consistent colour direction, with the final appearance influenced by texture, light and curing.

Planning the finish

It is useful to review the selected finish beside the home facade, landscape materials and likely light conditions. Edges, saw cuts, jointing and transitions to paths or steps should be considered as part of the whole composition.
